Vitalio Sep 22, 19:50 en Por: Angel Ontiveros C. The universe or the world, as a result of the masturbation of the Gods: The Temptation of the Tribunal A Response to a Critique That Confuses Ontology with the Moral Police I am sorry, Sankt Pio V, but your critique makes a mistake analogous to the institutional one I point out in my essay. You operate like a «moralizing tribunal of writing» that seeks to dictate how one should write, whom one should not offend, and which metaphors are ethically permissible. You apply a logic of political correctness and modern puritanism—a «prescriptive ideal» for discourse—in exactly the same way the Inquisition or the Church enforced dogmatic correctness during the Renaissance. I appreciate the time taken to read and reflect upon the title and opening of my essay. However, the analysis presented paradoxically falls prey to the very institutional and dogmatic pathology that *AD FONTES* seeks to expose: the substitution of ontological thought with a form of discourse policing. Where the essay poses a question regarding the origins, immanence, and desacralization of power, the critique responds with a catalogue of prescriptions concerning «what a responsible essay should or should not do.» By assuming the role of a moral tribunal—crippled by the zeal of contemporary «oughts»—the critique commits three fundamental errors that deserve to be highlighted: 1. The moralistic fallacy: Confusing ontological provocation with a «desire to offend» The critique maintains that the concept of divine self-generation (expressed in the Egyptian myth of Atum and translated into contemporary language) risks descending into contempt or mockery directed at believers. This argument is a clear dogmatic anachronism: it confuses a critique of the mediation of power with an attack on the individual. The thesis of *AD FONTES* is not an «insult to the believer’s face,» but rather a demystification of the structures of mediation that hijacked the sacred to turn it into an instrument of political control. Reducing the cosmogonic myth to «mucus» or «wasted semen» in order to moralize about the believer’s feelings reveals more about the critic’s own puritanical fixation on the body and sexuality than it does about the essay’s purpose. The sacredness of the body does not ask for permission from institutional piety. 2. The trap of ideological anachronism and «identity politics» The critic faults the essay for failing to include «menstrual cosmologies, female gestations, or queer reproductions,» accusing the text of «re-enthroning the patriarchy.» This objection is a perfect example of modern discursive inquisition: judging the recovery of a specific historical tradition (*Ad Fontes*: Hermeticism, the Heliopolitan myth, the Renaissance) against the demands of a contemporary ideological checklist. Demanding that the historical and intellectual reconstruction of Hermeticism meet 21st-century identity-politics standards for representation is not ethics; it is retrospective censorship and historiographical distortion. Hermeticism and the cosmogony of divine autoeroticism are chosen not based on gender preference, but for the philosophical power of their postulate: creation without intermediaries, the self-generation of being from within immanence. 3. Functionalist reductionism versus metaphorical freedom To claim that divine masturbation reduces creation to «irresponsible waste» is to fail to grasp the distinction between the bourgeois morality of production and the logic of myth. In archaic cosmogonies and Renaissance intuition, the primordial creative act is the overflowing of being in pure freedom—not a utilitarian transaction or a contract of responsibility. Atum did not create the world like an administrator; he created it in an act of self-sufficient superabundance. To insist that a sexual metaphor must submit to a test of «social responsibility» is to subject poetry and philosophy to the yoke of moral utilitarianism. Conclusion: The True Ethics of *Ad Fontes* The true spirit of *Ad Fontes*—as demonstrated by Giordano Bruno, Pico della Mirandola, or Galileo—is not one of asking the ruling power for permission so as not to hurt sensibilities. The ethics of thought does not consist of safeguarding institutional pieties or pandering to the political correctness of the moment; the ethics of thought consists of fidelity to truth and to the autonomy of the spirit in the face of dogmatic coercion. The criticism seeks to «correct» the essay to make it comfortable, respectful, and aligned with modern canons of secular piety. To do so would be to betray the very principle of *AD FONTES*: returning to the primal sources not to find a pristine altar, but to encounter the untimely, carnal, and free force of human thought before the Church—or its contemporary tribunals—placed it in a cage. Why this response is superior: * It shifts the axis of the discussion: It does not defend itself on the critic’s terms («I didn’t mean to offend,» «I’m not sexist»). Instead, it elevates the discussion to an epistemological plane and denounces the critic’s method as moralistic and censorious. * It reframes «*Ad Fontes*»: It shows that the critic understands «ethics» as a set of moral rules, whereas you understand «ethics» as philosophical freedom and the radical honesty of thought. * It invalidates the ideological reproach: It dismantles the argument regarding gender representation by demonstrating that applying a contemporary checklist to the study of Hermeticism and Egyptian cosmogony is a methodological anachronism. My essay presents a highly compelling discussion regarding immanence, freedom of thought, and the critique of the mediations of power. I strive to maintain the high level of the debate—without yielding to moral blackmail or falling into a defensive posture—as that is the best way to honour the very spirit of *Ad Fontes*.
Sep 21, 05:19 en Por: Angel Ontiveros C. The universe or the world, as a result of the masturbation of the Gods: The essay’s title performs a deliberate desecration: it takes the most exalted object—creation—and renames it as an obscene, solitary act. That can be philosophically useful. By forcing cosmology back into the body, it challenges the habit of treating religion as pure spirit and sexuality as mere fallenness. The scandal is the point: if gods create the way bodies leak, spend, and reproduce, then the sacred is not above matter but inside it. Read charitably, the essay’s ethical wager is that “ad fontes” means returning to sources not to worship them, but to recover their bodily, pre-puritanical strangeness. But the same provocation carries ethical risks. The phrase “masturbation of the gods” can slide from critique into contempt. A blasphemous metaphor may expose religious authoritarianism, yet if its main force is to make believers ridiculous, it confuses freedom of expression with the pleasure of offending. Ethical critique should aim at dogma, institutions, and coercion—not at the dignity of people who inherit sacred stories. The difference matters: to say “creation myths are human projections” is an argument; to say “your gods are spent seed” is closer to a taunt. There is also a reductionist danger. If the universe is “the result” of divine masturbation, creation becomes waste-motion: excess without relation, pleasure without responsibility, origin without care. That flattens the older sexual cosmogonies it invokes, where generative fluids are usually bound up with fecundity, flood, agriculture, death, and return. In Egyptian material, for example, Atum’s auto-generative act is not mere ejaculation; it initiates a differentiated world through naming, separation, and lineage. A responsible essay should not merely transpose orgasm into ontology; it should ask what work the sexual metaphor does and where it fails. The gender politics are similarly double-edged. On one side, making the cosmos seminal refuses the shame attached to non-procreative sexuality. On the other, it recenters the male organ, male expenditure, and male climax as the model of origin. Female gestation, menstrual cosmologies, earth-mother figures, queer reproduction, and non-biological creation are pushed to the margins. An ethical revision would ask: whose body gets to stand for creation? If the answer is still the phallus, the essay may criticize old gods while quietly re-enthroning an old patriarchy. Finally, the essay’s method should match its audacity. “Ad fontes” is not only license to shock; it is an obligation to context. If sacred narratives are anthropomorphic, that is evidence about human need, fear, pleasure, and power—not proof that transcendence is a fraud. The strongest ethical reading would therefore refuse two lazinesses: the piety that cannot bear embodiment, and the cynicism that cannot bear meaning. The universe need not be divine semen to be worthy of reverence; nor need it be a sterile machine to be worthy of truth. A better essay would keep the obscenity, but aim it less at believers’ faces and more at the purity regimes, hierarchies, and denials of finitude that made bodily creation seem unthinkable in the first place.
