Somos académicos que trabajamos en las áreas de derecho, derechos humanos, política, sociología, historia y temas relacionados en 19 países diferentes.
En las últimas dos semanas hemos sido testigos de una nueva escalada en el uso de cargos criminales y detenciones que siguen siendo utilizadas por España contra sus oponentes políticos.
No cabe duda de que estamos viviendo los días más oscuros de la democracia española desde 1978.
Además de los cuatro presos políticos y la detención de alto perfil de Carles Puigdemont, otros cinco políticos elegidos democráticamente han sido encarcelados (Jordi Turull, Josep Rull, Raül Romeva, Dolors Bassa y Carme Forcadell). Otros siete se encuentran en el exilio bajo amenaza de prisión. Además de Clara Ponsatí, un caso conocido por sus lectores, entre ellos se encuentran Marta Rovira, Anna Gabriel, Toni Comín, Meritxell Serret y Lluis Puig.
Los exiliados son perseguidos por las órdenes de detención europeas emitidas bajo los auspicios de la Unión Europea. Nos dirigimos a usted para exigir su liberación inmediata, y para exigir una acción inmediata de la Unión Europea para detener esta represión, que representa una mancha indeleble y permanente en la democracia europea.
